If you got links in pages with high prs (these pages are spidered more often) so I think that in one month or less.

Yes. Mix it up with related themes too. Like "Texas Holdem Forums", "Seven Card Stud Forum", etc.

I thought the sandbox meant you didn't rank at all. My new sites rank around page 4/5 for some nice keywords, but it usually takes 6 months before they reach page 1/2.

It really depends on the speed on crawling of the backlinked sites by Google bots. If the site has low importance, then the speed of crawling will be slower, and will in turn slow down the result of SERP.

Generally it takes to 3 to 4 weeks.but a lot depends on factors like your niche, competition, quality of links and blogs that you comment on etc.

well it seems that my latest additions have moved my SERPS up the board about 35 places
If its as a result of the last lot of effort and not some from ages ago then it has taken about 2 weeks

Backlinks "strength" slowly grows over time. The longer a backlink stays live, the more value is given to it by the SE. Small immediate changes can be noticed very shortly, maybe just after the next SERP-s update (1-2 weeks). Full results however should be expected in up to 6 months or so. Off course there are many factors, which help increase that process: quality and relevancy, as well as crawling rate of sites linking to you; trusted rank of your site (domain age, site history) etc.
I suggest - if your domain is a new one (younger than a year) - to be very careful about speed of link building. While the probability for an older site to be penalized for overexcessive speed of backlinks increase is almost none, that is very common problem for a new one.

Just to give everyone an update
On 4 search phrases I am now under #20 on google
moved up more than 100 places over past week so it would appear that if you get the right sort of links its pretty quick to have an effect.
Now to get them up the last 19 places and keep them there
