If those illegal aliens would just knock off making those damn crop circles and abducting people from the Jerry Springer show, I wouldn't mind so much...
Once every few months I send a newletter out to all my past link exchange partners. Its pretty effective way to get reciprical links for my new sites , I have like > 5,000 webmasters emails. I don't really care about all the random link exchange requests, since techically I am part of the problem, but people who don't check their emial list for duplicates and send the same link request to the same email 10 times sort of annoy me. I also think the fake politness is stupid too. Sometimes people email me back, and call me spammer, even though we have already emailed each other before. Sometimes they email me back and call me bad names and threaten me. I save those emails and re read them, we want a laugh.
Ha. I got one this morning, more or less the same. The difference being that I presume your link hunter is just fishing. This guy and me are both known sites in a very small pond. I wrote him back saying I didn´t understand his logic. Why would I put his link on my homepage (which the night before had been a PR6) on my homepage only to be buried in return on his link page. Bear in mind that I have had an outgoing link to this his site for years and never asked for a bloody peanut. His reply was that according to the Rustybrick tool, his site is going to be a PR6 while mine is a PR5. On the next update! I wrote back and said that if he wanted to reciprocate the link I have had on my site for years (on a PR4 page) that that would be polite and appreciated. Looking at my site this morning, sadly it is back to PR 5. But thank God, I didn´t let my brief moment of basking in the upper half of the green bar, go to my head. My prospective emailer was (and still is) PR5 and true enough the RB tool shows that he will be a 6 on the next go round. Even so, this guy is alienating one way link partners he didn´t even know he had, based on a vague promise of a PR 6 on the next update.
for what fryman posted in starting the thread. The great invites to get a garbage link for a homepage link.
One of a hundred, or one of a 1000... It doesn't matter if you can set up a bot browsing the web and reading zillions of whois emails. I just feed my delete button and move on
Had a thought about these Spam letters: so I will ask it in a question! If we block all Spam to our site does any one know the percentages of potential Spam that could be legitimate business advertisement (just sought after wrong)? And if there is a percentage of Spam (or letters to add links) that could eventually add to the value of your website is there a program or script that may help better to distinguish between the Spam and the not so bright advertisers?
