I just posted some interesting advice from SEO pro's such as Rand Fishkin on how John Chow can get his rankings back on Google.

Its worth a read for anybody wondering where their rankings are and how you can get them back.

Yeah maybe you shouldn't have, but this would sure bring in some extra traffic.

Sorry for going OT, but why is link to your blog in your signature using nofollow tag?

Will be interesting to see how long it takes before he gets his rankings back.

I've got a couple of sites penalized in exactly the same way, though maybe not for exactly the same reasons. Been almost two and a half months for me now.

I don't like giving new sites sitewide links. This helps them avoid the sandbox, as you can see by my rankings for "John Chow" for a 30 day old site.

I've seen how he fell off for "make money online". Ouch. On the other hand, some sites that use his method for ranking up are still on page 1 for that term.

If that is the case then they should be quite worried now. John didn't rely on google traffic but a lot of other sites that have copied his methods do.

Yep. I noticed that. It's interesting that when John publicized his results, so many other sites started copying that method. I even got emails asking to trade my reviews of their sites for their linkbacks.

    i believe that's a manual slap and Aaron wall's advice won't work

I don't think he should ever admit what he is doing is wrong. If he do so, that mean he admit that the stuff he teach other is crap

If i am John i would play dumb, just claim i don't know what's wrong with Google.

    Q. How can John Chow get his rankings back?

Ans. 1. Remove all the text link ads.
    2. Stop bragging about the paid links income.

Pssst...Matt Cutts has lot of links to external sites. Did he ever talk about making loads of $$$$ from them?

Yes, but Google does not like it, its against their rules. The rules are same for everyone, no matter who you are.

yea, but you are going to loss your reader too, which is more important?

Unless someone from Google said "we remove John Chow because he sells link", no one can prove there's a direct relationship between link selling and his rank got slap (since there are million people doing the same)

According to John's post, he only gets 150 visitors from Google a day anyway... Regardless, this incident is a good reminder regarding Google's policy re "unnatural linking"

He was only getting 150 people a day from Google from google for the term, “make money online” that was before the penalty was applied. How much of his search engine traffic has suffered due to this penalty is some thing that only John knows.

However John and Patrick have managed to exploit this penalty to their gain.

It was hs own fault because he allowed viagra adverts on his site. He could have blocked the naughty ads.
