Hi everyone. I used to run a small blog directory catered towards fitness bloggers. (I'm a gym junkie and i read tons of blogs on health + fitness.) For some reason, it took off and those that were on my directory saw anywhere between 30-2000% increase in blog traffic. The spin on it was that I actually ran analytics for them: page rank, # of inbound links, # of mentions on twitter/facebook/social media, pageviews, where and when the users were coming from, etc etc. And with that info, I basically had an "algorithm" to rank the blogs accordingly. (Obviously, higher rank = more traffic.) It got kinda rough as far as keeping server up, not to mention I had a full time gig doing other stuff, so I stopped. I wanted to get start again... but this time I wanted to ask the actual bloggers before making this directory. 1) is this something you bloggers would be interested in? 2) what problems (technical and/or marketing) do you have that would like to see solved?
There are many programs (and free utilities) that do that. There would be absolutely no reason for there to be server problems (Unless there was some sort of memory leak or if you were using a flat file instead of sql) Anyway.... I think it would be very easy for you to find a free or pretty inexpensive php script at hotscripts.com that will do the work for you and give you no server issues. Good Luck
Directories are always good if they can be focussed enough and all the sub pages rank well for high traffic terms. The reality is these days you need content as well as the directory, so maybe you could do a blog reviews site, or something similar. Marketing for my blog? If you can come up with a clever way to build traffic, that would be great!
Everyone is looking for more ways to bring traffic to their site. You'll find your market for this service. As createdevelop said, you'll need to add content. Articles about getting traffic and rankings would help for sure.
factchecker: Actually, I am a developer. There is nothing like this out there. It does daily rss feed analysis, inbound link analysis, and lots and lots of crawling. It presents lots of relevant information for bloggers as much as to the visitors. I am 110% certain there is nothing out there like that... It's almost like a google bot.. except blog topic targeted
