Don't worry about click rhrough rates, because its extremely easy to get the traffic from google adwords. Its what you do with the new source of traffic that counts. Eg, does your landing page have a call to action, is there any return on investment on your daily/weekly/monthly spend on Adwords. The above metrics are more valuable then CTR. Choose the right metrics depends on your business goals of your website. Unless, you just want traffic
I disagree, CTR is very important as this helps to define the final cost per click. If you have a high CTR Google will view your ad as more relevant to the keyword search and reduce your bid so that you can you rank higher than competitors who are paying more. If you are just after improving traffic than you may be better off concentrating on broad match options and the content network with low CTR, but if you are looking to improve your campaigns performance it is best to concentrate on the keywords with a high CTR which normally achieve a greater conversion rate.
Depends on your point of view, I rather get more conversions rather than paying less for clicks on Adwords. I understand your point that having a higher CTR improves your quality hence the less you pay for clicks. However, this sentence I disagree with: "if you are looking to improve your campaigns performance it is best to concentrate on the keywords with a high CTR which normally achieve a greater conversion rate." As conversions are not totally dependant on the keyword you bid on, but there are other factors in play such as the quality of your landing page. If you have a low quality landing page, no matter how high your CTR is you won't get as many conversions. I know because many of my clients dont have the time nor resources to create a good landing page, yet i manage their Adwords campaigns recieving CTRs over 25%. You need to take a wider view of things that contribute to a conversion, not just a high CTR.
