i fount this site while doing some keyword research and i dont know how this site can be ranked #1 for "travel" because it has PR=0 ..any ideas?
Travelocity? They have a PR of 8..... You can outrank sites with a lower PR.... just because you have a higher PR doesn't mean you will rank higher up.... although PR is somewhat related since if you purchase high PR links, you rank will rise, along with your PR..
travelocity.com is a VERY well-established site. I've known the site for ages when looking for hotels and cheap airfares. It is impossible for the site to have PR0. I think it was just that Google DCs were doing updates which should not affect travelocity.com's #1 placement.
i've heard that pagerank really doesnt matter. its all about getting your site in good placement on the SERPS!
travelocity.com have pr8, but for sure, toolbar pagerank is very very old pagerank data. Google Directory Pagerank - more fresh data for pagerank, but old data too.
http://www.travelocity.com is a PR8 website. try the following website to check PR using multiple DCs http://seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank-dc.html
When a site has has keywords that are more relevant or the same as the ones being searched then it can rank higher than high pr sites. And this happened to a new site of mine. I had found a niche keyword which no one was using. got some backlinks and then found myself on the first page of google. It was really very easy. The hard part was staying there. but that's another story.
I saw PR3 site beat out ranked PR7 site, #1 in google.com for keyphrase with 80,120,000 results in very high competitive industry. So PR is not important anymore, just some scale to look but not main important as it were before.
Its not about the PR, it is about the uniqueness of the content, good SEO strategies, and a witty technique
Sometimes the PR indicator in the Google Toolbar gets stuck. Go to google.com and then back to travelocity.
OK, 1. Back Link Pass and Give you PR ... BUT it's 2. The Correct Anchor Text that ranks you most these days Hence ... 3. Lots of websites with lots of backlinks giving them good PR but not great serps as the anchor text is things like the site name. Jay
Something wrong with Google's Server. It shows PR8 on some servers while PR0 on the others. But as a lot of people have mentioned before, PR holds very little vaule in SERPs.
It is true that PR plays an important role in the SERP, it is not everything. If PR is the only factor in deciding the position of the search results, then there would have been no need for search engine, all they need is a web portal listing websites in decreasing order of PR beginning with PR10 . Thank god, that it is not like that.
PageRank means importance of pages. Just because one page is more important than another page, doesn't mean it's more relevant to the search.
