I am not here for flame anyone or any company, I just want to have some "academic" discussion about it.

well, the site is www.infotecnology.com (that's correct spelling)

based on what I see, it almost has no backlinks and "no influence" on the site basically, and none of those backlinks are CNN or wall stree journal.

google only indexed 163 pages, even though it's an aged site but previously not being used, and you can check the archieve.

could it be any other factors?

Probably because a lot of people just have links to it... If its aged it could definetely be true

also you could use a backlink checker to see how many sites are linking to it.

Just check the statistic for this website. PR is quite complicated value. Not enough but it is not just counting backlinks.
    Google: 1
    Yahoo: 77
    Altavista: 81
    Alltheweb: 81
    Traffic Rank: 239806

they might not have enough links but good traffic and nice design could get that site pagerank. Pagerank is not only depend on link popularity, because having link popularity from "0" pagerank could kill your pagerank too.

Well, you do not have to be curious, this happens all the time. Some people get a PR4 for their newly built site which they did not even promote it. I used to have a blog which has a few backlinks with no PR, guess what? Google give it a PR3, so what?

You could never figure out why, and you should not. Just keep building quality content and backlinks, get more traffic. If you get a higher PR, then OK, if not, don't be upset as long as you get decent traffic and earnings.

PR is sth that out of our control although you can always try to get high PR backlinks to have a reletively higher pr, but pr should not be our focus, targeted traffic and $$$ are.

BTW, it's not unusual see low pr site overrank high pr site, so basicly, pr is not that important, at least not as you think.

I have a PR4 website that is just 2 months old, for an aged domain the PR sounds about right and also the spelling does not matter, they probably get a lot of traffic from people spelling it incorrectly, not as much as they would have got before google started suggesting how to spell things lol

well just restricting the discussion to how this site got a pagerank of 3 it of course depends on the pagerank quality and quantity of the backlinks and if you look at the yahoo backlinks profile, you will see there are a good number of them coming from sphere.com and if you check the pagerank of that site, it's a pr 8, so if one of those pages that links to the website under discussion, infotecnology, has say for example a page rank of pr 4 or pr 5 then it will give the site/front page its pagerank 3. or if there are enough backlinks coming from say pr 2 or pr 1 or pr 3 pages, then the front page of infotec could get a pr 3.

I don't think sphere.com being pr8 is doing anything good for it, as the pages which have the backlinks to him have no pr. we look at the page pr not the domain pr.

well, though it's an aged domain, but like I said, the previous contents on the site isn't even related and in spanish probably.

what I saying is I think the owner bought the domain while it is still pr3 and throw new contents in there, I can only verify that when google updates the pr again, but it will take months.

Also, no, I am not so obsessed with pagerank factor, I think it is a pretty good looking site seems full of useful information as well, but I just smell something weird due to # of google indexed pages, previously being spanish, low quality backlinks, let alone it only has 105 some backlinks.

It is most likely because they have high quality backlinks pointing towards their page. I have a PR4 subpage on my site with 4 links. One of those links is a PR5.
