how many of the links are from myspace profiles? It's pretty easy to automate the link building process.

IF you can make something cool for users to add to a MySpace page that provides a link back to you, it can spread very fast.

The other options for automating link building are the link networks like DP's Coop. With all the link networks you provide link space on your site in exchange for link placement on other sites. The thing with the Coop is that the links aren't permanent, so they appear in the backlinks only because the link was there when the spider came by, but next time it drops by it will probably be gone.

There are also other link networks that provide permanent links, like the one in my sig.

I hope that helps explain things for ya. :)

Wow that's a lot. Then the best way is to start a social networking site.. like myspace, digg, etc..

Quite a few of the myspace autoadders also post comments with html links. It usually only takes a few seconds per comment so you can imagine how quickly all of the links add up. I don't know how much that many links from one site helps in the search engines, but I imagine they get quite a lot of natural traffic from myspace itself.

The myspace link adders do it for the myspace traffic and not for the search engines. Google doesn't have a whole lot of respect for links from myspace for obvious reasons. The traffic can be incredible though, if you're in the right niche.
