how is this done?

    I am looking to make a homepage type of site. you know like have it fetch local news, weather, etc and return it. Something member based so they can set a zipcode so when they go to the page it automatically shows everything that is local to them. Maybe add in a traffic report and a gas price widget.

    Any ideas? Does a script exist that does this?

    Sure, there are lots of scripts that do this... You will need some Javascript, ActionScript, RSS.... The list goes on. If you want to have members then you will need some SQL and a database like MsSql, MySql, Access, Oracle...

    You will also need a server script like ColdFusion, PHP or something
