So my question is basically in the title of the thread. I'm optimizing my site at the moment and the guy who makes it for me decided to put "shared hosting, dedicated linux hosting and managed dedicated servers" in the title of the index page, though I consider dedicated and colocation to be main services offered by the site, he explained that "Colocation" will be used in the title on page about colocation itself. Is it really a sound idea? Or should I have "Colocation and dedicated hosting" in the titel of the index page?
Depends on how competitive the phrases are. I think colocation being a less competitive phrase will be fine on a dedicated page, this will help you rank better for this term without diluting the power of the main page title terms.
I think this is probably a good decision. I doubt many people search for any phrases that include 'colocation'. Your designer has likely made this decision based on that. It sounds like he has chosen to optimize your homepage for more important, higher traffic keywords. Despite what you perceive your main services to be, you also need to consider keyword search volume and competitiveness. It is usually a good plan to use your homepage for the most important competitive keywords.
Thanks for the replies. The thing is that the number of searches for colocation is definitely smaller, however the profit it brings is much more considerable than that from shared. This is what makes me want to insert it into the title of the main page. Ok, tell me please what the max number of keywords to be put into the title?
the 3 big factors in SEO are: 1) Title 2) Content 3) Backlinks. so title and meta is very important in the view of SEO.
