Hey friends. I usually do odd jobs like posting in forums, commenting on blogs, proofreading, writing articles etc. I get paid usually in range of 1 - 20 $ at a time. Most of the time i get an accept or deny option in my transactions in paypal. They always keep asking me to upgrade to a premium account. They cut some amount as their charges or something + 0.30$ and transfer the rest to may balance. Someone told me if I would upgrade to a premium account the charges deducted would be less. Can anyone tell me how much they would charge as there is no mention in the FAQ and account comparisons. Also most of the charges shown there were for US residents and Europeans. All i like to know is whether they would be charging me a monthly flat fee and if there are any drawbacks for me in upgrading to a premium account
Technically speaking, if you make money with your paypal account you will need a premier or business account. A Personal account is one where you pay the customer role and not a seller role. Paypal offers 3 kinds accounts not that it allows you to decide if you want to pay fees or not. Thus paypal levy a higher fees for credit card payment for a personal account. Thus they are constantly prompting you to upgrade to a premier account to comply with your policy. There is no monthly fees with a premier account but they only charge when you have incoming payment. You can refer to Paypal website for all the fees (US) https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside and for non-US check out https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside&countries=ROW
Thanks for replying. I also read some other posts in this section. It seems as i am providing a service whatever be the amount it still is a service. I have upgraded to premier and will stick with the premier account and will not downgrade back to personal. Also checked those threads. The rates are not that different but would surely hurt when i am transferring huge funds. Lets see how things turn up. Thanks again. Mods can close this thread.
I joined under a business account or premium years ago... I started doing paid surveys and getting paid for GPT sites and now that I'm using my account for the first time I'm finding the fee deductions to be huge? Can I escape this with a personal account and is it possible to downgrade? Thanks.
Yes, it is possible to downgrade to a personal account but you probably limit yourself to small transactions when you do so. Use the Contact Us in Paypal to tell them about your intentions.
You can downgrade, but one of the conditions of the "basic" account is that you can accept just four credit card payments per month. That's what it used it be, anyway - probably still is. So, if you want to accept payments, you need to stick with a business or premium account. Also, there's really no way to "escape" the fees. For PayPal they're 30 cents plus about 2.8% per order. If you went a different route, like getting a merchant account, the fee structure would be a little different, but the total amount of fees per purchase would be about the same. It's simply the price of doing business. If you want to accept online payments, you have to pay something for that.
