How is it that I'm not #1 for this keyword?

My site is 3 years old, how is it possible that my category: http://www.sandrophoto.com/category/famous-photographers/ isn't #1, since it significantly exceeds other pages in number of back links...

any thoughts?

I'm also considering to rewrite it into 1 blog post, are there any advantages to it? and redirect all links 301?

 

Was is quality baclinks? Even if you have a thousand of backlinks yet if all these are coming from weak sites this does not give you benefits.

You maybe outranked your competitors in terms of backlinks but you don't know that those backlinks are coming from authority sites that pass better link juice and this what makes the difference.

 

i agree, it's probably the quality of the backlinks. also, there's a kajillion other SEO factors. you could simply be overdoing it and causing google to filter you.

 

What are the keywords your looking to achieve ranking with? Is it "Famous Photographers" ? I would suggest optimizing the articles to use the words "famous" . I only see one instance of that word in the title. (unless i over looked it) You should use your keywords as much as possible in your articles, without making it sound bad when read.

what about creating a single post about all famous photographers? I was thinking there is no need for a whole category... can I leverage back links with 301 redirect and bring new post on the top of google 1st page? or is it a suicide and I will probably loose ranking for that keyword?

 

I check out your ranking at Google, you are #4 at "famous photographers" keyword. Not bad at all.

 

I think that you have big competitors. Keep your work up.

 

If you are currently #4 as mentioned above (which is excellent ranking), I would not do anything that drastic, I would still and the word "famous" in some or all of your articles though.

 

Maybe you got too big competitors.
So try to get more Backlinks

 

It shows when I check Google.com that you are ranked at #5 which seems good to me, though I am new to the whole SEO thing. How manu visitors does that bring per day?

 

You have a large amount of competition. The way to overcome this is to #1, add new quality content on a regular basis. #2, get QUALITY backlinks. Try getting links to your content itself in addition to linking to your homepages. Check your website's load time. Make sure your web page is not too slow in loading. Google will start to use this factor to determine SERPS if they aren't already. But the point here is, constantly write new content that has quality and use while building high quality one way links pointing to both your home page and your inner pages, or even blog pages.

 

Are you talking about the search term "Famous Photographers"?

If so you have little hope of beating Wikipedia without a heck of a lot of work!

However I might be able to help you get up there on page one of Google with a little collaboration and meeting me half way RE some input somewhere and some effort on your part on your site if it is important to you.

You would need to be willing to give the advice I would give a go to see if it helps you though.

The fact you think the "significant number of links" is the factor you are seeming to focus on and think is what most counts is a first thing I would aim at working on with you for starters as it flags to me you have been slightly misinformed.

 

Make sure to create quality of inbound links or back links. Google gives more credit on the quality compared to those irrelevant sites that you are getting. Quality is better than quantity right?

 

Wonder how many more people will come in here and mention quality backlinks, I mean its only been mentioned a dozen or so times, im sure we can squeeze a few more in...

 

The best seo is no seo. Why? Because google loves natural seo and those smart smart engineers are always working hard to make sure natural seo sites beat out rigged seo sites. Instead of focusing backlinks you should focus on getting it in front of peoples faces. Why? Because if its good content they share it with their friends, they talk about it, they post on their blog, post it on forums, they will link to you!

Content is king, always, always, always , always.

and if you aren't getting traffic then your content isn't very good, simple.

 

I'm already ranking page one for that keyword in fact, it's ranking top 5-6 right now, would help me get it in top3? that's another that I'm willing to share RE

 

The quantity of backlinks does not mean quality. Only quality links work.

 

Quantity doesn't mean quality plus maybe #1 is much older then you etc etc are many factors ...
