How is Google's link popularity calculated?

Hi All,

I am using the pagerank.net site to check my link popularity and it's very a strange think i noticed. My site riksanbud.no page rank is #3 but have very few popularity links and others who have page rank #3 have too many links. So I am little bit confused that does page rank really based on link popularity or not? as I read that it depends on link popularity.

Please anybody here can put some light on this? bcoz it's really hurting my seo work.

Its mainly based on the quality and PR of the page linking to you.
You may get a PR3 if your backlink comes from a PR6 page with the same niche.

 

Thank you very much digtech for your reply. Getting linked with pr6 with the same niche would increase my pr is a new thing to know.

PR depends on the quality and quantity of backlinks that a site have.

Quality of links is more important than the quantity of backlinks.

One backlink from a PR 5 page worth much more than multiple backlinks from PR0 or PR1 pages.
