It has its' goal, look at the alexa rank, PR is no deal on its' own, even dp had none it'd still be DP and that's what really matters. People get too much obssesed with Google and forget what web is all about.

I thought the link leaking business was a myth?

We should get SEO experts to help the forums out ;) seriously... if it drops to 5 that would be bad... But again, traffic is all that matters.

    sitepoint forums have pr7
but who cares? I came here because of dp's community/members and not because of its page rank.

PR isn't really important when site is getting decent traffic.

Also DP is the best community (Atleast for me) :D

Toolbar PageRank is a relative number. Do not look at it as an absolute number.

If the actual PR of the top PR sites go up, the toolbar PR of other sites may automatically go down.

Yahoo is PR10 on the toolbar.

If Yahoo doubles its backlinks in a short period, Google can't raise the toolbar PR for Yahoo.

So what happens is the toolbar PR number for other sites go down.

That may be the one reason why many PR7 directories went down to PR6 in the last update.

Yeah...last PR uprade dacapitated alot of major sites.

Statcounter went from PR 10 to 9...which is an immense loss imo. Guess Google are pushing the standard higher and higher...just to make us suffer.....

Or is it just that we are getting better and better ;)

There is no specific measure for a PR. For example you can't say that if some site has 100 backlinks its PR 1 and the other which has 700 Backlinks is PR7.

No, it doesnt work that way. The site with highest range of Backlinks gets the highest PR of 10 and on basis of that the next range of sites gets PR9 and so on. So don't think that DP has gone down. No no no. It could be the other sites have generated a few extra backlinks than normally expected. :)

Hope i cleared the air with this.

    Thanks!!
    WW
