How is dogpile doing for you?

I've spent the last little while looking at last months stats and and starting to see dogpile showing up more and more. I had a look at dogpile once and thought it was, well, dogpoo but my wife (non-techie) seems to love it and uses it all the time now.

Are people seeing much dogpile in their stats?

I see referrals from it every now and again, but it doesn't really push much traffic my way.

After the big 3 SEs, Dogpile sends me the most visitors. Not alot, but I get a few daily.

Quick reply to Michael about http://www.dogpile.com.

Dogpile is what they call a "meta" search engine. Dont ask me what the heck "meta" is suppose to mean (meta is betta?) but in the case of search engines, it means they are returning results from multiple sources. If you look at their logo, they pull results from Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Ask Jeeves, etc. Since most people use more then one search engine, this is basically a one stop shop for all of them.

The first two search engines I ever used were Yahoo and webcrawler.com. I guess the dogpile.com parent company is the same company that owns webcrawler which I thought was kinda cool.

Meta sort of mean something like "information about". As in meta-data, meta-tag.

As to why search engines that returns other search engines are called meta, the guess is they provide information about the other engines.

BTW search.com is another meta search, owned by Cnet.
