How is 1and1

Guys I want to purchase a domain and I have searched a lot and in the end made my mind to purchase from "1and1.com" since they are offering a special price. But the problem is that they are asking $6 additional security deposit and I am not getting why? And what if I make the additional $6 pay to them then will they give it to me back or not?
    Please tell me

Strange!!!!! When I last checked 1and1.com they were provide domain registration for $0.99 for first year and $7.99 after the first, I think you should ask their support why it is asking you for a $6 deposit.

I actually just tried them a week ago and got the same-thing for a .com. I called their customer support but they told me that they don't charge .99 for .com's, but I get a Paypal recicpet for that anyway. (weird)

I never heard of a $6 additional security deposit, you should call customer support for that.

Speaking from experience of using 1and1.co.uk, rather than .com, I wouldn't use them again. I don't know your country, but that might change how they do business. I know some hosts have more security checks depending upon where someone is from.

I take it you chose 1and1.com because they are cheap? Save up the money and try dynadot.com, for example.

I have heard nothing but bad things about 1and1. Honestly I would just save up the money and go with a place like namecheap. Check out the vouchers section of this forum for coupons for discount on domain names.

I Think 1&1 is a Good Registrar, But They Have Lots Of Hidden Charges which is Really Frustrating. You Can Also Opt for Godaddy Or Namecheap for Cheap & Better Solutions.

In my opinion pay extra 2-3 bucks and avoid buying domains from 1and1..

Try godaddy , they regularly offer discount coupons

I bought my first two domains through 1 and 1; and I still have two or three sites hosted there.I haven't had any problems, although their tech support for site and hosting questions is poor, Hostgator is superb in my experience.I normally use Godaddy as a registrar just so that I can manage all of my domains from a single control panel.
