How INDIAN Writers Can Earn Big Bucks?

Discussion in 'Copywriting' started by Fem, Jul 5, 2010.

I have seen many INDIAN writers complaining that they are always underpaid even amidst of providing top quality contents in a quick turn around time. On a mission to help them out, I'm about to start a new venture that would help all INDIAN writers get some better paying jobs.

Before the system is UP, here I'd like to hear from you guys

1 - Hello INDIAN writers, please share your problems here!
    SEMrush
2 - Hello Gurus, give some suggestions to get this issue solved!

    Thanks

i firmly believe that the very act of "I am ready to to do this work for you for any price" attitude is what is responsible for writers to be underpaid. what option do the clients have if they have the same offerings from 10 people on varying prices, ofcourse the client chooses the one which requires him to shell out the least amount of money from his pocket. the very solution to this could be that the integrity of writers on DP is restored and a base price for writing content is determined. above this base price factors like, i traders, samples, experience etc can be counted in. there is a definite need to regulate the prices else experienced writers do not get their worth.

Location has nothing to do with it in my opinion. It all comes down to skill and attitude. If you offer your work for scraps, or show yourself competing for scraps, that will be what you get: scraps.

The first step for a writer with skills has to be to set an absolute minimum rate for him/herself, a rate he or she will not work below.
The second step is the hard one: Sticking to that rate, and work above it if possible.
The third step is attitude. Show you do quality work, but at decent rates.

    Good example:

Fem remember your threads in BST where we clashed heads regarding rates?
While I made the posts I did. People were contacting me through PM and flat out offered $ 0.02 per word just because they read how I reacted to low paying jobs.

After negotiating those jobs made me $ 0.03 per word. Attitude is very important.

    Hope this helps.

With all due respect and despite being an Indian myself, I find that most of the Indian writers on this forum have deplorable writing skills. I am not a writer, but I'd rather write my articles myself than hire one of those cheap writers.

Amen. This is the best statement that anyone can make. If you are going to write for any amount of money then you need to know how to write. If you have no idea how to even speak the language chances are you are not going to write it very well either.

Kraven is right also. If you want to make more money then start today. Post in your BST ads what you want and make it a few cents higher than what you are willing to accept this way if the buyer wants to negotiate you have some playing around room.

I may say tht Indian aren't underpaid just because, they have contributed themselves to be underpaid accepting all type of jobs for peanuts.

Look at the B/S/T and most of those who reply anxious to get those low-paid jobs done are from India.

It should be added that I am noticing a steady increase in writers from that country, who are now standing up for themselves though, so there is definite improvement!

American Indians have it just as bad. Only the reservation big Casino's provide them work, Others live in squander.

Hogan, seriously, if you want more pro writers coming to your board, and, STAYING, you really should think about putting a clamp on such amateur and idiotic posters, along with the kids here who claim to be writers and "seo gurus." And then you have ridiculous article spinning threads....

You are just about left with just them.

    Just a thought.

Okay, you can ban me now. :)~

Hey, you are one among the most reputed members here, and you know this thread is being hopefully watched by many INDIAN writers who are trying hard to make an extra income in order to make both ends meet. Why can't you share something with them, or at least some suggestions for improvement?

I started this thread to make it useful and meaningful to a class of people who forever remain in the reserve bench when it is the real game of high paying jobs. Please, please try to help them out.....

    Just a wish.

My honest suggestion would be for them to brush up on their English skills. I know they do fairly well for having English as a second language. Perfect skills may not ever be attainable. Most anyone will get a better paycheque if they can speak or write English with a high level of accuracy and vocabulary.

:) Another great point that I got from the thread. I would appreciate if you can show them some resources [urls or so] that will be helpful in sharpening the skills as a paid, professional writer.

    Thanks

One would be Open Office. If they download the English version ( it is free ) it will correct their spelling automatically. One of the best ways to learn English properly is to visit an English-speaking country.

What helped me when I was a kid; was watching all the English and American movies without the subtitles. You pick up the spoken language like that real easy, after that the writing becomes easier also, because English is in my opinion the easiest language to write in, with logical grammar rules, and not to many of them compared to my own language(Dutch).

    Hi Indian writers,

Here are my ideas on how Indian writers can earn more:

    1. Specialize. Master a topic and write for that topic. Invest on books and Internet research to study a particular subject. If you can, enroll in a course to enhance your knowledge on that subject. Choose one that is close to your background. You do not have to choose a very narrow topic, though. You may choose workouts and exercises, and write on topics such as fitness, health, wellness, and six-pack abs, among others.

    2. Write samples. Talk is cheap. Show proofs. If you think you are worth more than you are being paid for, you should stand and prove them wrong. Start a blog of your sample articles and direct your readers to it so they can see the quality of your work. Ask your visitors to comment on your articles. This is also a good way to check if you really are a good writer or you still need to hone up your skills. One warning, though: Prepare yourself for the comments that you will get, and use those comments as learning experiences. If the comments are good, then write something better. If not, study more. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

    3. Give away free articles. Submit articles to article publishers such as EZA and others. Yes! Give away free articles, and consider this as an investment. You reap what you sow. When you sow sparingly, do not expect to harvest much. Also the quality of your seeds will determine the quality of your harvest. I know you get what I mean, because India is an agricultural country.

    4. Be patient. It takes time to succeed. Take one step at a time, and after taking enough steps, rest.

    5. Hire and train writers. If you really want to earn big, multiply yourself. If one can earn $7/article, imagine how much you can earn when you have 10 writers working for you. I am now on this stage. Before, I was a textbook and science research senior editor. I resigned and started my writing company last May. The whole month of May, I write alone and earn a decent income. Now, I have four writers. I hired them as I see their potential, then train them. I paid their basic salary during their two-week training (That is 96 hours of training). Now, I am earning much more than when I write alone.

I hope this helps. Good luck. (This is my first post at Digital Point. I just joined yesterday.)

A writing revolution is the only way most writers are going to make more money. Offering services for half pennies per word creates the expectation in the buyer's eyes that this is normal. And for the most part, that is normal today.

But I don't see how you're ever going to get the service providers to change this mindset.

That being said, while grammar, spelling and sentence structure is a major problem, I think general coherence is even worse. I often don't get the point an author is trying to make. I assume this is the language barrier, but maybe not. I would be interested to know if some of these authors are coherent when writing in their native language.

I know for a fact a lot of native English speakers aren't particularly coherent.
