Suppose I have a keyword "XYZ".
Now if I have my domain name as www.xyz.com , it is going to help me in comparison to others competing for the same keyword.

The sites that rank high often have the keywords in the domain, the page URL and the page title.

I have heard ( no evidence to support this ) that a keyword rich domain accomplishes about 40% of all the good results that come from SEO practices. So Yes get those keywords in there....

Yes very important, find the best keyword and then just add a "1" to the end. Now you have a keyword rich domain name.

Go to google and do a search for webmaster forum. The first 2 results are v7n and digitalpoint - nether of which have webmaster or forum in the URL.

The 4th result - ozzu - does not have webmaster forum in its url either.

Having the keyword in the name of the domain might be important, but there are other factors that seem to be more important.

Some good points. It may help, mostly because the domain gets used as part of link text. It certainly is not necessary.

I have had decent results with both types of domains, with keywords and without. I personally prefer choosing domains which feature the main keyword or keyword phrase I am focused on. It just seems to look better and sound better. As long as I work on good SEO I usually don't have a problem.

It's possible to do well in the SERP's with no keywords in the domain, it just takes a lot more work.

yes of course this is the most common factor in seo, if you know what is the main theme of your site than try to use that keyword in your domain

Again, I'm astounded by the amount of bad advice that is available being peddled as gospel truth.

My answer (based on years of real world SEO experience) is that it could be a very small ranking factor. However what is much more likely is this:

99% of not-very-tech-savvy internet users will link to a site using it's domain name eg. Youtube - therefore it's not so much that the keyword is in the domain, but the sheer number of natural backlinks containing the keyword ensure it ranks highly.

It is certainly the case that you can outrank a keyword based URL purely on the strength of backlinks - all other things being equal.
