How important is your domain when bidding on Adwords?

Is it best to register a new domain and forget paying a bunch for a established domain or is it worth the money to buy a established domain for a ppc campaign?

I don't think it matters. Unless like ncvw said, if the keyword is in your domain.

I thought the PR of your website somehow effected your Quality Score. I guess not.

If you're just doing PPC then buy a domain with good keywords.

So you're saying to buy a new domain with keywords in it or buy an existing domain for a premium?

I've definitely noticed a huge difference where keywords match the domain. We've done a test where the same keywords, ads and max CPCs were used and the only difference was the domain of one matched the main search term. It basically had:

    1) Better quality score
    2) Higher ad ranking for lower bid cost

than the campaign with the non-matching URL. It's not always possible but if you're doing PPC and you can incorporate your main search term in the domain then it helps.

Thanks for the reply. If it's not already the case (which it doesn't seem to be) I think Google may incorporate PR into QS.

I think if you have the keyword in the domain name it might help, but more for ctr then anything.

Having the keyword in your domain does highlight the keyword in your ad. I guess that will also help in increasing the CTR. But if are paying good money to google to get the top ranking, it should not matter.

But surely, if the keywords are in the domain name, you are likely to get a better quality score, therefore you would have to pay less to have the top spot.

Right, a good domain can mean better CRT or/and conversion rates.

If your budget is important, you can try to buy few domains and test them.
I have already done that successfully several times.

I wouldnt worry about the age of the domain for ppc.
However having your KW in the url will definitely help with getting a higher ctr

There's a lot of misinformation flying around here...

    Just to clarify...

Your domain name/age/pagerank do not affect your quality score.

That said, if your display URL contains the search query, it will be in bold, which may make your advert stand out. Also, a domain name that sounds relevant is more likely to get clicked on. A better clickthrough rate will improve your quality score, so if you sell toasters, a website called www. ToastersDirect. com will be more effective than a website called www. CheapCars. com.

Bear in mind though that your display URL doesn't need to match your actual URL, so you can put the search query into the display URL anyway. There's no reason to buy an expensive domain - it won't achieve anything...

I heard that Google was going to disallow to use different urls and display domains
