How important is the title tag in SEO

A friend of mine has been trying to optimise her site but she can't change the title tags due to editing restrictions on vista print (who she bought the website from).

Will this hugely restrict her in terms of SEO?

 

I think this will restrict here in terms of seo because its one of the most important tags!

 

It will not be the end of the world - getting a good ranking is based on dozens of different factors. Having an optimised title tag is important - it is one of the single most important factors and is (usually) easy to change, however as a percentage of the whole pie it is probably still small - less than 10%. Carry on trying to get them changed but concentrate on other methods of optimisation like adding relevant content and building links.

 

Importance of Title Tag in SEO:

- TITLE tag is one of the most important factor that search engine consider to rank the page.

- The text in your TITLE gives a short description about your page. Means it describe the topic of your page.

- The text which is available in your TITLE tag is going to be appearing in your search engine page results. So it is the most important piece of information available to searchers. And if user found it relevant than it will click it.

- The text which are written in your TITLE tag will appear as your bookmark text whenever anyone bookmark any page.


There are many other factor which also affects your rankings (e.g your off-page elements)..

But Title tag is the most important on-page factor which definitely affects your rankings....

That's a big restriction. I would give maximum weight to title tag. H1 tag would be the second most important tag for on page SEO.

The above is pretty old, but still a very good resource and a lot of the things mentioned by the SEO pros still hold true today. Notice that the Title tag is listed as #1. It is VERY important in terms of SEO.

 

Agreed -very important. I just added a plugin to my wordpress blog that allow you to alter your title tag.

 

Title tag, <h1>, <strong> is very important. Try applying your title in every page with content. I don't know why your site is restricted. Just code the script.

 

Agree Title tags are No1, just try some reverse SEO if you don't think they are:-
"Use the same Title Tag for all your pages and watch Google drop you like a stone"

i think i know what kind of website she bought from them. I think it will be difficult to rank because they have sold so many of them that are the exact same

You can not denine the title tag for a site. it's important to any site which one seeking for traffic.once you have choosen title tag for your site you must ahead with same title.

 

Title has been always the main part in every site. Its not only important for SEO purpose but for every field related to the sites.
