How important is the linking text in a link for SEO?

Just wondering, if i have a website PR7 and the reason it is PR7 is because there are lots of backlinks like
    <a href="www.mysite.com">something</a>

Will i see better ranking for any search term other than 'something' if i have the related content on my site?

To make things clearer, is both PR of a site and the linking text needed to get better results in search engines or is the PR more favoured than the linking text?

the linking text aka "anchor text" is unbelievably important for the term you want to rank for. dont worry about PR so much. read a few hundred posts in the forum that describe this

PR has no bearing on the rankings of the website. It is the degree of optimization for keyword(s) that counts.

The answer to your question, in short, is yes. More backlinks mean more authority.

The more back links you have (usually reflected by your PR, but not always) the more authority you have over ALL keywords related on your site.

SERPs rule. A good page rank is helpful, especially for selling links, but the higher your site places in the SERPs, the better overall for you.

Yes, your anchor link information is critical as indicated previously.

Yes anchor text is critical, but I think you can have rankings without based on anchors.

You only must have very authoritive site with strong link profile, and then you can get away without big number anchors.

Archor Text is taking into account including the words around the anchor text, more and more weight is being put on the words around it because it is so easy to buy links.

so then I should say something along these lines if my keyword phrase im targeting is "how to train a dog". I would type something like " Hey everyone this is a great site, im really interested in how to train a dog but do not know where to start. I found a great site on how to train a dog at how to train a dog "

Looks spammy to me. Dont have how to train a dog quite as much. Think of it as an "in text citation" like in high school/college.
