As of June-July, they switched to H3. Wow, they change every month now, to keep us guessing. View the page source at http://googleblog.blogspot.com/ D
I heard rumours that using an H1 tag and a URL tag over the same keywords for a link increases the SEO. Is this true?
who knows - try it and see. If it increases your SERPs then use it, if it decreases SERPs then bin it. There are few 'golden' rules in the SEO world. At the end of the day, it's a case of try it and see.
Something leads me to not believe that. I thought that Hx tags and font tags are as old as each other. And the Hx tags were designed with some significance, ie SEO.
I have specifically targeted several high-trafficked keywords/keyphrases in my h1 tags in a recent overhaul of my website (PR5), and within 2-3 months, (some within weeks) saw a significant increase in SERP's across the board in the keywords i targeted in this manner. I'm a firm believer in the H1 tag, and i've been reading alot about the h2 etc... tags, thinking about re-optimizing to incorporate these as well. can't hurt. But i definitely believe they are more than "old fashioned font tags with bigger sizes." for one, use css... and the sizes, colors, fonts, etc can be anything you want, and two, this goes against everything i've read/experienced first hand. VG
the only downfall with the Hx tags I know of is that in internet explorer, they add the line space before the line of text and completely messed up one of designs lol.
Just use H1, 2 and 3 and whenever Google switches up, you will be prepared. For those who don't think they are important, check your ranking without any then add a few and check it again in a few weeks.
Interesting discussion. I've never used any <hx> tags.. but I'm going to make some changes to one of my pages to see how much of an impact this has on my rankings.. Will report back
I tend to agree with this philosophy. If you build to flow and look correct for the user, you'll be g-t-g for the engine if it changes up flavors from month to month.
