Just something I stumbled upon regarding the preception of fonts to the reader. I found it interesting. conclusion: This finding suggests that documents presented in typefaces that are viewed as less appropriate are seen as less serious and less professional in nature. The appropriateness of the typeface also affected the perception of the email author in that the email . For the full report http://psychology.wichita.edu/surl/usabilitynews/91/POF.html
Yes well I'm not surprised, psychology is a major field that needs to be studied if you're going to get into marketing. BTW: Green is an excellent color to use if you want to yield positive responses, it gives a feeling of "go".. Red it a huge... mistake as it works oppositely.
It's funny you say that about color. I have used "Red" in a brick and mortar enterprise and it is extremely attractive. I have used "Red" on a web site and it has fallen flat. As far as "psychology" it is in everything and is an extremely refined science.
Yeah, I've read the same thing and yet the majority of headlines in sales pages use a red font... navy blue is suposed to be a good color for headlines. My first website was built with SiteSell and the headlines are automatically created in navy blue... wanting to make my site look like all the others out there, I used to change the blue color to red or black on all my pages... I didn't make a dime with that first site Thankfully I learned that the only way to really tell what your market will respond to is to test everything. LC
I have to agree with LC. Testing is important. The type of font you use will depend on your niche. An obvious example might be if you have a comic book site, use "comic sans". Some people hand right their blog posts using a tablet or tablet pc. This has done wonders for their blogs. Anyway, you get the point. Pick a font that matches your niche or theme and test.
i'm a graphic/web designer (http://www.youarestellar.com) so maybe a little more discerning but i think it's a pretty general statement to say that if a website or ad looks like it was put together by a 12 year old in paint shop i won't touch it. to me it just screams unprofessional. one examples around that you've probably seen: barf! looks like they found a free font and slapped it together...the type is all smushed. *tip - don't use any of the fonts that came with your computer - same goes with using generic blog templates
