Hi, say for example I want to create a proxy that will rank high in the SERPs. If, for example, I own the domain www.browsefilteredsites.info (which i dont) ,but I want to rank highly for the results 'unblock myspace', then how much will having an irrelevant domain effect the results?

    Thanks.

Not crucial. Try searching on google 'use myspace' and you will see that first site is freecodesource.com...

No its not crucial but having a related domain name is just an extra leg up you would have in getting your site ranked for what you want.

Problem with getting a very specific domain is when you want to add other categories or so, then the domain will look too specific in the SERP. Better to use something more general if you will expand the site later.

It's not a big deal.but if domain name is similiar to keyword then it leads to good result.

I have several websites that have the keywords as the domain name, and they tend to do really well in the SERPs. I don't have any proof to show that the domain name is solely responsible, or good practices, but I've got some #1's without spending lots of time or money.

And since they are niche sites based on those keywords, it makes them relevant and recognizable. I'll also get type-in traffic, which is a bonus.

Further, you'd be surprised how many keyword-targeted domains are still available in .net, .biz, .org, etc.

Yes, there is an advantage if your domain name is associated with your keyword.

It's not necessary to use your keywords on your domain but I think it can help a little bit. But you can also put it on the top ranking depending on how you optimized the site and work hard for it. Using your keywords as anchor text of the URL can help you in improving you rankings.

if your keywords are in your domain it jus gives some extra weight.. however if they are not, no worries.. you can still rank #1 for your keywords if you do seo properly.. ;)
