How important is text for seo?

I have a photo gallery blog and sometimes I find myself just posting away pictures with a keyword as the title and no text. So my question is, how important is text when it comes to a gallery blog?

I mean after all people come to my blog to look at photos not read an interesting article. So is a picture worth a thousand words in the eye of search engines or just to humans?

 

You should add description and alt tags.

 

Text is so far the only thing that the crawler can understand. I have read articles about how programmers were working on reading flash as well. Content is always what will you to the top. If your website is a photo gallery, focus on your niche and write articles to aid the crawler and not the visitors. At least fill up tags and keywords on the header.

 

Content plays the most important role to rank a website it is also referred as King among factors involved to rank websites. It increases the keywords density of the website and almost any keyword can be targeted in the content. If you are really serious about promoting your website then consider adding as much text (content / articles) as possible to the website.

 

Text content is most important for all search engine so best text words get more traffic

 

If you would like to receive a lot of organic traffic (traffic from the search engines) that you will need a lot of unique text.
Considering that I would say that text & backlinks are the two most important SEO factors.

 

thanks for the responses guys I decided to add a description to every photo in my gallery it'll take a while but I'm sure it'll have a better impact on my SERPS

 

Yes, don't forget the alt tags too.

 

Tag: "alt" is very important for one optimization done correctly, keyword density assigned images should not exceed 3% in the optimized page. A description most relevant for each image.
