How Important is SEO?

Cool title, but this is about marketing and how important it is and how powerful it is.

For instance, when a competitor plays with your links, you can put your name right under theirs in the search engines.

    Google Results

    Yahoo Results

    MSN Results

That's just a few examples. Good luck promoting your site!

    Hi noppid,

I'm sorry, I think I'm being thick. But I don't understand, nor can I see from those search results, what you mean.

    Plays with your links?

    Cheers

    Chris

It will help you to know you aren't the only thick one. I looked at all three SERPs and I can't figure out what I am looking for

Well I figured his site is www.lakecs.com which ranks well for the term "admin zone" which is a link from that site to his forum.

Beyond that, I'm as clueless as everyone else as to what noppid is getting at

I don't get it either. I looked around and didn't see any "playing with links" going on on the admin zone's part.

I think this is right. Relying on someone elses brand. However, the titles dont say admin zone - i would be less likely to click - i may be on the wrong path here ;)

Although that still wouldnt make sense as he isn't number 1 for that term or even close so you would then have to SEO for that term.

Which brings us back to the fact that it would be better to spend that time on your own keywords.

    Strange thread

agreed, it would be good if you ranked lets say 8th for a term like ebay - and your page was about ebay ;) but admin zone? do alot of peope search for 'admin zone'?

And more to the point, the people who do search for Admin Zone are actually looking for that specific forum. Even if you wrestled the number 1 away (way more difficult than the number 2 or 3 spot as they are the only site SEO'd for that term) you may get a few accidental clicks but the conversion rate would be 0%

noppid can be enigmatic, for sure...

"That noppid has a lean and hungry look... let me have men about me who are fat." -- Julius Caesar (named after the salad of the same name), from William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (why would he call it that?)...

There is absolutly nothing important about this, all those things you guys pointed out are obvious.

I just wanted my name under the admin zone to piss off the owner. He has staff that work for vBulletin. I joined Joeychgos site and this guy banned me and had someone from his forum with access to the vBulletin forum change my sig links to point the the admin zone URL.

So I took the lead and did the same. Put my url back with his anchor.

Watch the guys at the admin zone site, they are thieves and can't be trusted. They WILL use a hacker if you seem competitive with them to try and cause you problems.

I wouldn't register there if your personal information is important to you.

    Cheers.
