How important is PR of a site?

Hi,

I wondered how important the PR of a site is if you want to compete with this same site in a niche. For example: i have bought a PR 2 domain for a niche, i look in KW elite and see that the competition also are PR 2 and 3 sites with little backlinks and no anchored text. Is it then easy for me to take over that niche?

From what you say, I guess you have picked a domain from someone else or a dropped domain. First thing you need to make sure is that the site was previously used for the same purpose. This holds a lot of value in terms of SEO and Serp rankings.

Have you checked what the previous owner was doing with that site ?? Where and how has he built links for it from ?

Since you say your competition has very little backlinks which are not even properly anchored, I guess a new site can beat them with proper SEO and link building, so it shouldn't be difficult for a PR2 site owner who knows the right way to build links and rank for keywords.

Thanks for the quick reply K.S., i picked a domain from fresh drop with the keywords that i want to use in it. I didn't really checked what the previous owner did with his site because it seemed obvious. I just checked it an it was used for the same purpose so that is great. How do i see where he build his links from?

For me Alexa plays big role. It indicates how popular my site is. It means traffic. My PR just 2 but I have a lot of traffic!

 

Very important if you want to sell it.

 

Put aside the PR issue, the only way for you to overtake your competitor is to have superior keyword contents that will rank well in google.

Is your page rank valid?Coz there are lots of fake page rank domain..

 

I agree about the keyword content. Focused keywords on your page will greatly increase your search engine traffic. The higher indexing will get there eventually.

Alexa rankings can be easily doctored. Search around and you'll find tools to do it.

I hardly pay any attention to alexa. I have a med website, which gets 300+ uniques a day. Most of the visitors are docs, med students and most likely they do not have alexa tool bar installed on their system. This reflects in the ranking.

I have a Pagerank check up blog, which hardly gets around 50 - 100 visitors. And since most visitors are SEO's or from web world, most have alexa installed and hence the ranking of this particular is much better than the health one, which in reality is not true.

Why didn't you buy a higher page ranked site? It would be better, you think?

 

pr value is much more effective and reliable than alexa ranking...more the backlinks,more pr value

 

It gives site some value.. but PR doesnt matter when it comes to earnings

 

i didnt buy a higher PR because i just starting with this and am trying a lot of things. So don't want to spent a lot of money on a domain name.
