I will soon be launching a new niche job board and I have purchased several possible domain names. I need help on choosing based on the best seo strategy as it will be very important for me to be in google top 10 for my keywords. The job boards is geared towards commission sales reps, sales agents and manufacturers reps.. I want to call the site "Commission Driven" and i own that domain name. i think it is somewhat descriptive, easy to remember, brandable, only 2 words, etc...but I am wondering it is the best for seo purposes. I also own: salesagentjobs.com (that keyword string gets searched 5,000 x a month on google) commissiononlysales.com (1,000 x) repssales.com (40,000 searches for reps sales) would i better off using these domains or should i stick with "Commission Driven" TY, D
It's a help, but it's not the 'be-all and end-all' that some would have you believe. It helps that you'll get more anchor texts that have the keyword - but do all the other seo stuff right and you can overcome that if you don't have it. Depending on your market, being memorable might be more important to you. If you think about the absolute top performers on the internet - from amazon.com, facebook, youtube, ebay, - not a 'keyword rich domain' among them.
I would personally go for the last option its shorter and easy to remember and then the all important content.
Having a keyword in your domain is a massive boost. Especially if you have an entire keyword phrase exactly as search term. You can beat authority, established site for that keyword phrase if your domain name contains it.
thanks everyone...keep the comments/suggestions coming. I see a common thread regarding content...in the instance of a job board...are the jobs enough content or what other content should there be?? thanks again..
I agree that keywords in the domain name can help rankings a lot. For one of my websites we have really good rankings for most of our keywords, but we are still struggling on some keywords which have several competitors with the keywords in their domain names. For your keyword research, I suggest you change the Match Type to 'Exact'. 'sales agent jobs' gets 5000 broad match searches, which includes other phrases like 'insurance sales agent jobs'. The exact match shows only 260 searches. So this keyword is only good if you think you will be able to cover those other broad match keywords.
I recommend boosting your site's content with articles......make them keyword optimized, targeting keywords people would use to find a site like yours.....could be resume, job search, employment related at the top level and then drill down into the specific commission based work that you promote - articles about how to be successful in that type of business. Articles will boost your organic traffic over time and also build credibility for your site as a resource site. Dan
I found that a combination of keyword-rich domain + keyword-rich articles submitted all over the place work best for any of my niches
