I have validated pages that when I place google new feeds on, they dont pass. If you get in the habit of using consice code, it's prety easy to get validated, or near validated code.

It's very over-rated SEO factor. I think it considered as a big one one time. But as far as I know, that won't help you much in terms of SEO any more.

I think meta tag works 100 times better than that validation.

Just checked http://validator.w3.org/ and found some results.
    few of them are:
    google.com Failed validation, 66 errors
    yahoo.com Failed validation, 37 errors
    googleblog.blogspot.com Failed validation, 110 errors
    microsoft.com Failed validation, 24 errors
    forums.digitalpoint.com Failed validation, 42 errors
    techcrunch.com Failed validation, 102 errors

The only one which i found without an error was validator.w3.org:D

What more can I say. Things are very obvious.

As Matt explained in one of his videos series last year - just because some University student/proffessor can't create a properly coded web page does not mean the information of said page is not of value. The SEs do not consider the compliance or framework in the scoring process....

...and that analogy shows why... (don't shoot the messenger)

It is our experience working with more than 1,000 web sites that W3C validation gives you better search engine rankings. Rrrors in your code can cause you big problems. Converting your website pages to XHTML will help you reach more customers, as your site will work better in more browsers and non-traditional devices. More about SEO and W3C ...

I have a crazy conspiracy theory that the USA government created W3C compliance so they could spider all of our websites when we went to check them. Yep. And we'd all go crazy trying to comply with this "compliance" when instead, all they do is spider and cache our site to keep tabs on us.
