How important is Google Places for a local business?

Google places, what’s the buzz about? How important is it for a local business? Is it important only for a local company or all companies around the world? What do you think guys?

 

Local Businesses- very important.

 

Google places is in my opinion more important than SEO for a new local business. Well it is SEO just not in the traditional web sense. For my local clients we have quicker results in getting google places set up and correctly optimized and it gets ranked pretty quickly. That will show up usually in general searches and more on people searching on their mobile phone since more and more people are searching using iphone, etc. The beauty of that is you can get the contact details like phone number super quick and just push to dial it on an iphone.
If you haven't gotten some help to set up google places, its well worth the small investment!!

Google places are really helpful for local business. Lets take an example- A California travel agency can provide its services in California and its near suburbs. When peoples from California will search a travel agency then they will find the agency very quickly which has Google places or listing.

 

It's more important mostly for local business or local market for more reliable.

 

If you're a local business, then Google Places is absolutley essential! But, ranking in the Google Places listings is a different process than ranking with regular SEO.

For a local business, in a market without too much competition, it's possible to get MULTIPLE listings on the first page. First, shoot for a top spot in the Google Places listing. Second, using traditional SEO, try to rank a couple pages of the website, a YouTube video, Twitter Page, etc.

I suggest you look up tutorials on how people use google places on youtube, outside from just reading this forum. Its essential only because its like yelp, that helps expose local businesses to gain more customers.
