That means it's a good indicator for myself and the content I'm providing to the users.

I believe bounce rate plays a small part in the ranking process, in the future I predict it will play an even bigger part. I guess it's a little like load speed, at this current time it plays a small part, I know it's small because I own a slow loading site that still ranks very well in a competitive area.

A friend of mine is having a price comparison website. It shows up in the search results for specific keywords while his bounce rate is very high (80%). The reason for this is that he only uses external links so when an user visiting his site choses a product he/she can imediatelly press the lowest price button that leads him directly to the selling web shop of that product.
So he's getting a really good conversion rate (he is paid per click) agreeing to the compromise of having a huge bounce rate. On the other side the site is very good SE Optimized.

Bounce rate should be less as much as possible. average bounce rate is 40-50%.

Thank you for info on this thread, my bounce rate is pretty hight. Over 75% but it is an affiliate page so has a very obvious button to "Start". I think because of this my bounce rate is higher than it should be. Does this make sense to anyone?

    Cheers

Bounce rate gives you an idea of how good your content is and how long it keeps the viewer interested

Good bounce rate will mean you have done your SEO job well. If your content is unique and relevant to those keywords this will make a visitor want to stay on your site and your chance of getting conversion will matter in the end. High bounce rate shows the content isn't good or relevant or possible not user friendly enough to keep the visitor on your page.

Bounce rate is just an indicator for webmaster to track how long visitor stay on a particular page, the longer the visitor stay on a webpage meaning a low bounce rate. Webmaster can use this data to evaluate the content of the webpage to provide better content to visitors.
