the text on the page of the link is fairly relative to my site

however the actual text of the link is an abbreviated version of my full site name

should i pester these ppl to change to the full name?

IMO make your anchor text keyword rich, easy to remember and catches attention of the viewer. I suggest to change it to full name.

Anchor text is important but you should not try to make all your links use keyword anchor text.

SEO is about building natural links and the most natural way for other people to link to your site is to use the domain name or company name as the anchor text.

Keep trying to build anchor text links but try to keep a natural balance.

Anchor text and the text from the page that links to you is very important.

Take a look at zend site. If you search 'php' in google they are on the first page. Still most of their incoming links have anchor like "Zend" or "zend engine", but most of the sites that are linking to them are about php ;)
