How important is a website's IP?

    Hi,

let's say i bought some domains and place it under my acount as addon domains, will they have different IPs from each other?

I have heard some webmasters from online forums that it's better to have websites have different IP even though they are under a same server account. Is that true? Why is that better?

    Please advise. Thank you.

    hi tthmaz,

i really do agree with J4ckal.
it is also better for linkexchange coming from future link partner with different IP`s.

Yeah, there must be some reasons for that. Any better explanations?

The reason is link farm, and if you dont plan to do link farm between your sites, then it doesn't matter if they are on the same IP or not.
Google knows that IPv4 is limited and they cannot ask each site to have different IP.

websites with same IP do not exchange pagerank.

tthmaz, add-on domains will share the IP.
however if you have a reseller account, you can assign different ip's to your domains if setup as separate accounts.

Google will give links from another ip more weight then ones from the same - the whole idea works by the notion that it's hard for webmasters to create quality links from external sites, so links form ip's in other countries, and other servers do help PR.

search engines are cleverer than to just take into account IP addresses, they may take into account profiling too. (Who owns the domain name)
