How important are web site hits to SEO?

I'm just curious coz there are a lot of people selling hits and there are many takers even if they know that it might not generate any results or sales or whatever.

Can anybody please explain how hits will benefit your site in terms of SEO?
Coz if it does I'll buy hits myself :D

    Thanks!

    importance = none

Traffic has no role in the search engine algorithms. There is no accurate way for the search engines to tell the exact traffic of every website.

The people who buy such traffic are hoping for a bit of ad revenue or they are artificially inflating their stats to help sell future ads.

They are trashy robots and have no positive influence on your SEO at all. Even if they were legit visitors, again, it would have no effect.

Some people buy traffic because they're getting a deal and benefitting from arbitrage. I'll give an example:

I run a website where I am paid CPM, not clicks. Let's say I've got a deal going this month where I am making $5.00 CPM, or $5.00 per unique 1000 visitors.

    I buy 50,000 uniques for $100.

My ad deal will earn me $5.00 * (50,000/1000) or $250.

    $250 - $100 investment nets me $150.

Now to get a good CPM deal with an ad network you must have an established site with a lot of visitors.. But this is doable and many people do it.

OK. I get it. I thought the search engines would think that your site must be important or something if you have lots of hits and rank it well. Now I know :)

The CPM thing is a great strategy.

Um, what is this for??? Hehe.. Is this related to the topic?? Anyways, hits are very important to websites. If you don't legit hits you might not have revenues. Hits are important to both product based and service based industries and also those websites who have adsense.

Good Seo will provide your site with hits.
Buying traffic at best, will reduce your Alexa rank, it won’t help your site rank.
    Keep your cash.

    Thanks Brian

Search engines don't include site hits in their algorithm. More hits for a site doesn't mean more chance for a better ranking :D

Its a knock on effect - hits can make people notice your content, and they might link to that content if its worthy, which will lift your site in serps which will get more hits,,and so on

So if you can get genuine human traffic using other ways than search engines then great. But avoid buying traffic from people who sell it, because 99.99% of the time its just robots visiting your site
