I am constructing a comparison review site and I don't actually get to any of the products before you reach the fold and have to scroll down. It's more just explaining the niche and why a product would be useful and why I'm reviewing them. I'm wondering if I should include maybe just a mention/announcement of my top three picks (in link style) before you reach the fold? It wouldn't be that awkward, it would look nicer if I didn't do it, but I could work it in just for those people who would nav away before scrolling down. Thoughts?
Yes I always find a way of doing this on all my landing pages now. I will mention xxx product name in the beginning paragraphs once or twice and give the it a link. Or I will throw a horizontal review of the 3-4 products close to the top with pictures. Because some people just bounce if all they see is text.
Yes, it is more convenient for some readers but I have found that if people are genuinely interested in the product(s), they will scroll.
Desperate to find a solution readers will scroll Curiousity readers will not scroll I remember an eye color heat chart of where the eyes most focus on, top left side is most popular. I think 90% of sales would be determined by what is presented above the fold. If the reader is not interested above the fold, why scroll down.
if its an article, i find above the fold is very good. If its a product review, i find below the fold is pretty good, because you've built up the reader. Perhaps split it into 2 seperate pages, so you have a page with the article about the niche, and then a page with the product reviews. That way you can send your readers to the product reviews to buy, but you still have useful information on your website.
If the product link is above the fold it will just do better. If the sales copy is good or they are desperate for a solution they will scroll. All being equal most products that convert the best get moved closer to the fold or above the fold. The point is if you are selling a single product it is less important. If your selling multiple products always put the converters above the fold.
I now place my opt-ins above the fold, in fact they are right to the left top of the landing page. It has done wonders for me.
Any time you can get the links in above the fold, it will definitely help. The only time I don't do it is if it would look way too awkward to the visitors. Sounds like that's not a problem for your site, so you might as well give yourself a better chance to make a sale.
