How important are domain name expiry dates???

    Hi all,

I'm sure i heard on here awhile ago, that google now take into account how long left a domain name has before it expires.

So you should buy new domains with a long time before they expire, instead of keep renewing them every year?

Can anyone explain if this is true or not?

    --------------

(Also, i heard there is actually a SET amount that people usally earn on avarage per page they have on their sites, can anyone remember what this is quoted to be? its each page usally earns a person a CTR per page or somthig)

Cheers for any help everyone :)

I think .. its rubish... I just renewed my sites.. and I didnt see even a hint of change in the SERPS...

Although, ive heard the domain registrants address is important.. for SERPS.. but again its not proved..

I think that maybe there is something in that theory, but think about it - how can anyone (other than the search engine developers) say definitively whether it's true or false? How could you accurately test this?

Why would a registrants address have any affect on SERPs? I use private domain registration on all of my sites...so what kind of effect does this supposedly have?

If your site raises loads of flags about being a black hat spam site then google may check to see how long its registered for. Spam sites are never registered for more than a year as their lifespan is much less than that.

For the average site that doesn't raise any spam flags it will have no effect at all.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the algo having something to do with how long your site has been registered, not how long it has till it expires...

Because they definately take the aforementioned into account, i'm not to sure about the later.

I do think that indeed the length of time it's been registered is taken into effect/

For my personal preferences, I like to design everything to gain the SE's trust - I'm a site they can depend on and therefore rank highly.

I'll register my domains for a minimum of 3 years and preferrably 5. Again, I want the SE's to trust that I plan on being around awhile. I also don't hide my whois (though I do use a mailboxes, etc. address).

I have no scientific proof this works or that it does a dang thing. And I'm certainly not saying I zoom to the top of the SERP's because of it but again, everything I do when building out my content sites are to gain trust. I think the little pieces will add up over the long run.

    Thanks,
    Randy
