I've been doing SEO for 2 years now but just thought I would share this here. Some of my SEO acquaintances and I have come to this conclusion about linking right now. Since penguin 2.0 came out I have changed the way I link to my money sites from exact anchor text to really long-tail anchor text that includes my keyword. For example, if I 'm trying to rank for "how to quit smoking" I will have my anchor text be "exactly how to quit smoking right now". Of course, I am still building mass amounts of semi-high-quality links via SENuke to dilute my overall anchor text profile even more but using this method on my actual high pr sites is getting some great results. After changing from exact anchor text on 5 network sites, one of my sites shot up from #8 now to #2 for a $3.85 CPC keyword with 5,500 US searches every month. Now I'm going to start monetizing it (health niche). I have literally done this changing the anchor text for about 4 money sites so far and have seen at least slight increases on ALL of them. The idea is that Google's algorithm places more trust in links that are not "actively" trying to rank for a keyword but still include it. Happy seoing Maybe this should be moved to search engine optimization, didn't see that section at first though!
That's been the case for a couple years now, over doing it is so wrong and will get your site to almost no where in ranking unless its from a very high quality related site with very high google pagerank. I still believe and IMO, domain diversity is a key element of any link building campaign. Having to many links from various sources is very important, even if you're not over-optimizing your anchor text. However, thanks for sharing your experience though.
Hi great post , thanks for the share i also feel that having your links spread over different platforms, is better then having thousands and thousands to one link , as well as changing up the anchor text is keep to keeping it looking natural .
For more than a year, we have been doing this and after Phantom & Penguin 2.0 update we need to take extra care of it. Thanks Kyle17 for sharing your experience!
Thanks, Kyle17. Really, thanks for sharing. Seems like a brand-new super secret SEO tactic was just born, should we call it "dilute your anchor text keywords with other keywords"? lol Anyway, I personally would not share this if I discovered it, so, I really commend you, Kyle BTW, when I want to get anchor text ideas and/or to check what's working right now, I usually scan competitors links with a backlink checker that reports anchor texts. For instance, seo spy glass
Google is trying to cut down a site's ranking based on the number of low quality, irrelevant backlinks it has and the frequency of these kind of backlinks to a site. Its better to not build links from article sites with spun content, variations in anchor text as it will be of no use to the users, Google hates it. Google wants a webmaster or a site owner to stop building links and start earning links for the quality content it has, even a tweet with this link is more valuable than these kind of spammy links.
