    This is a common misconception. Depending on the target, it might not at all be possible to do this kind of "hack". It's not like on TV or the movies where every computer is available online if you just know the right Linux command.

    This would involve social engineering and getting the owner to somehow grant access to the machine. Not necessarily that hard, but it's a completely different job.

    Easier to just hire a thug to steal the machine and toss it in a lake.
