Not really. Spam is usually "unsolicited advertising".

The OP did not advertise in his comment, therefore it is not spam.

Yes, there is a need to do it manually. Manual commenting means you can be perfectly on topic, even interesting, or amusing.

Just because you folks do not like short comments, does not make what he did spam. Open your minds.

I'm sure those links with benefit him because I have done the same thing many times over the years.

It brought attention to my site and some people blogged about my blog,
(another link). Plus even if they are nofollow, they are still good with other
search engines and they give my site more relevance which helps me greatly
    in the SERPs.

    Open your minds.

I think people should try to offer genuine comments when visiting other peoples sites/ blogs. We all hate spam, so there's no use in contributing to it.

I would guess that the previous comment makers are annoyed because your 'intention' was to increase your own links, not to contribute to the discussion in hand by leaving any comments of any use. There is a difference.

Yes we all want to increase our links and PR, but it should be done with integrity and consideration.

In short, if you leave a damn good / valuable comment, then if you get increased backlinks you've kinda earned it.

    It's all good.

    no follow is quite irrelavant.

    use your sense.

while comment spamming is not much good, a relevant post on the topic followed by a link is good. also, find a problem that occurs in most sites and then write and article aout it... that the best way to tailor it.

I would have to agree. While I may leave short replies on forums I actually make a more serious effort when I'm blogging.

I blog on relevant sites in this case, SEO related sites. This is my target market so commenting to impress is very important. It is also about branding. When you do what you have done you are actually branding yourself in a negative way. This is especially true if you are using targeted keyword for your name.

    spamming
    no follow
    no traffic
    no link juice

these all like a waste for me.

Status update, I only did that for two days and I just checked my backlinks again today.

    I have:
    708 www.alirazaq.com
    386 alirazaq.com

That was real easy, now consider me doing that with ALL dofollow blogs. I know that a majority of those are nofollow but still the method is the same.

Perhaps it works for SERP but useless for pagerank development. For me, it is wastage of time.

Constructive comments are welcomed by any blog but most blog owners will eventually get tired of people posting 2 word comments just to get a back link dont get me wrong it can be a worthwhile exercise but quality is much more important than quantity with this method i feel.

I will do the work! But are the links going to stay ther?
    Will they be valuable links?
It would seem that is too easy, no?

    Read the topic buddy ;)

The links will stay there as long as the comment does, and the comment will stay there as long as the post does, and the post as long as the blog does.

Only "dofollow" blog links are useful however any link helps in the long run it's just Google only worries about "dofollow" links.

Spamming is not good, and if google see high backlinks increase it may be harmful for you.

Do you actually read the topics when you post in them? I already mentioned how you could make a valuable post and attract even more people to your site. So what if it is not good for PR, I am sure that traffic increases along with links.

Back links from unrelated web pages may decrease your page rank.

Google wasn't born yesterday. Especially if it's commonly used software like WordPress or a Blogger account, Google knows the difference between a comment link and a link added by the site owner within the blog.

try your best not to add to the discussion in the blog posts that you comment on.. don't just post " Nice article! " or " I don't get it. " because webmasters aren't dumb... they will realize what you are trying to do.. comment on blogs relevant to your niche :)
