As an analytics guy and a newcomer to wordpress.com I really wanted to get Google Analytics running on my new free blog.can you tell me how to do it please ?
Go to themes editor and find Main Index or Footer section. Next follow the analytics tutorial where you shoud copy paste your code.

You cannot use google analytics on wordpress free blog. Instead use inbuilt "stats" option to get the required traffic data.
I'm afraid, you can only use the stats option which is located on the dashboard. It is inferior compared to Google Analytics, but you can still see referrals and search engine queries.
