JamesColin, What you have to keep in mind is that I am building these sites specifically to generate Adsense revenue, so quite a lot of thought has been put in to them before I spend time on building links and increasing their traffic. This means that I am carefully choosing a niche that not only has a high EPC, but also for keywords that will hopefully have a very high CTR. So you're probably wondering how I determine which keywords will get a high CTR... well, in order to figure this out, you have to get in to the mindset of the person performing a search - I call this "mental profiling". What is the intent of their search? - are they trying to find a specific product or service for example, or simply seek some information? Here's an example... If someone is searching for "how to lose cellulite", it is very likely that they will click on a targeted Adsense ad that reads something like "The Best Cellulite Lotions" for example. If however someone is searching for something like "what is cellulite", it's less likely that they are going click on an ad because it is more likely that they are simply seeking information, and not necessarily a solution to their problem. Many product-centric sites get CTR's in the 40-50% range because those that are searching are in "buy mode" and when they see links (ads) that match the products they are looking for they will not hesitate to click. So getting back to your questions in regards to you stopping at 5% CTR, It really depends on the niche and keywords that you are targeting. Make sure you split-test different ad layouts and colors to see which work best. Sites that are product oriented can do much better with some images, while sits that are geared towards giving information often perform better with no images since they tend to distract people from the ads. I have a couple of great WP themes that get a high CTR if you want, just PM me. Does this help? -Adam
Hi Adam thank you for your reply, I'd love to have a look at the WP themes in action, but unfortunately I don't use WP for any of my sites, I only use either Drupal CMS or my own code. I understand the theory of the product-centric pages, I would extend it to problem-solving. When people are in problem solving mode, they tend to click much more. For instance "data recovering software" is often searched for when there are important files to recover (like deleted photos on a SD card or documents after emptying the desktop bin) so with a nice ad placement, the CTR is higher than for people browsing in information mode. As I mostly have traffic for user-generated pages, I don't control the content, and I'm optimizing CTR only via ad placement, that's why it's already not so easy to reach 5%. But I'm sure there are ways to increase this CTR even for generic/unkonwn topics, only I don't know those ways yet. I used to do split-tests, but it's true that I have becomed lazy after I have learned how to reach the 5% minimum I set myself to. So I should get back on split-testing in order to try to increase this knowledge. Thank you for the reply, so if you can show me those wp themes optimized for adsense in action that would be nice.
yeah...maybe he try to promote the link in his signature... but...I think this info is quite useful for AdSense beginner...
You misunderstood - the site was not earning $21k per month, it was sold for that. It earned $1500 the month before it was sold (August, 2010). -Adam
Either the story is true or not, but its true that it is motivating me...Thankx for that motivation indeed.....
It's all true the only problem I feel most people have is staying the course, you know what I mean? Everyone these days wants instant results and while you can get fast results you cannot get instant. Great job!
nice story but if you read what you wrote to us you will notice that you never made "21,000 With Adsense" but you actually have the money from selling the site on Flippa.com after you increased the adsence to an average around $40+ per day [so if you held onto the site and kept this up for almost 2 years then you could have actually made "21,000 With Adsense"] lol
thanks for share but i have some dough on it its true r not may be its true because any thing possible with ad sense .how many uv you got per day also please share some thing about your site constant
BeardConstance, The site received between 150-180 UV / day. For those who are still skeptical, everything is quite easily verifiable. I'm not going to come straight out and give away the domain name, but just do a Google search. $21,200 - August 31, 2010 - Flippa.com
