I would have researched a little more before throwing $6,000 into promotion like that especially so close to the PR update. For me $6,000 is a lot and I would never put it away in 3 days!

No offense but you could have done a lot better with these $6000.
Not sure how much your budget is but its always better to promote consistently than just do a "bang" and then come back to normal.
Can you be consistent and spend $6000 every week (if not every 3 days?

There is always a difference between spending money and spending money wisely.

But I do hope you will do good with your project coz at least your way of promotion shows that you are serious with this project.

 

Come on guys, I am pretty sure the money is not completely wasted.
Take into consideration a few factors.
First, with such high bids he has pretty much secured home page listing on several highly promoted directories. Future bids will be much smaller.
The bids to his directory are just coming in and I am pretty sure in a few weeks there will be at least $2000 of bids on the home page, once we get into a bidding war
Although he can break even, without PR7 it will be very though to make any money with it, but I am pretty sure he will eventually at least make it back.
Promoting a general web directory with that kind of money would have been a much smarter move, in my opinion.

Being at #2 at bigweblinks alone is going to give him a boost.

Thats what I am talking about. It is difficult for a Bid Directory to get the most out if it without high PR. (hmmm ... well, these days its try for general directories as well as some people don't consider anything other than PR)

To me, something just don't feel right there. He could have turned a new domain into PR5/6/7 with that much promotion & money invested in. TotalPosters.com just doesn't sound like a bid directory. (Again, that's just my opinion)

 

Well he wanted a BANG and he got it (from those mistakes that he did ), but its still a BANG, i too think that he will make his investment back.

 

Well, I am taking a lot of the advice I got and a New Layout will be ready pretty soon!

Also I have been adding to some smaller directories all weekend. Will be adding to some more larger ones this week, reinvesting every bit of the money we take in.

Just thought this was a cool Alexa Graph. Shows TotalPosters.com above the 2 Largest Bid directories there are. I know those other 2 are PR 7's and have consistant traffic for months though:

Out of pure curiosity could either of you please give me a blueprint on how he could of spent it better? I"m not saying I don't agree with you just you two seem so sure that he wasted it. I'd like to hear how you would spend $6000.

Also we should be alittle easier on the OP. He posted it because he was excited about what he had done and all he received was people downplaying him for whatever motivations.

 

People can say what they wish but I think it's pretty cool how that happened. I would get a custom skin or at very least custom logo done to make it look more appealing to paying customers. Either way good luck in your in directory.

Hi Rob- I hope you won't mind if I tell you how would I spend it.

$750 for an eye catching template.
$2500 on directories on first page of Aviva (except of course few who won't list it)

$1500 -- on bid directories.

I would then rent 4 PR7 links/m -- $600/m would be enough. That would have given me a steady traffic and good PR
