How I took my directory from ranked 2,000,000 to 27,000 in Alexa in 3 days

i think its great that you can approach your projects with such great conviction

$6k in 3 days is actually ok, IMO. One can treat it like buying over a business with some established backlinks and marketing already in place.

but i do agree that your domain name is a major setback, and one that has really no solution.....

 

Thats a huge promotion with a bang..
Nice alexa - you can even get that alexa boost with $1k also.
The final outcome will depend on PR, design and linkbacks.

I agree with all your views. Let me share my thoughts also--
I bought a domain--few months back ( if he is so agreesive in marketing --why can't he spend $10 for a new domain instead of using an expired?) -- installed directory script --and slowly promoting it.

I am going slow with backlinks --too as I believe the FLAGG-OFF limit has been brought down by Google.

So I am looking for just few links.

I get 10-15 uniques per day --and its alexa is around 220K. No problem with that. It has started to rank first for the domain name for some time now.

I expect a nice --little PR after the update as it has got 252 backlinks --on the updated DC.

It has only 5 sites listed now --as I never promoted it.
Once PR is updated--the site will get little bit older --I'll up the promotion tempo --little bit more. By next update -it should be 6/7 months old. So this is how my idea of a directory should go. Grow slowly--

If you want evertying quick ( backlinks/SERPs/PR and $$$) -- I think there is better chance to fall than survive.

Go slow and steady --have long-term plans for your project.

 

Here is a good analogy, you launched your directory the way George W. Bush would have done it....shock and awe without being prepared.

Bet I can do that with $100
Today's Alexa for mentioned site is over 80K
Will be hard to keep it under 100K next week.
Seems spending so much money is not enough to keep rank so high.
Or
This is not the best way (not only - I'm sure) to promote directory for high traffic and ranks.

I have dir that is stable under 30K for months already. Now my plan is to go under 20K.
And I'm sure I won't achieve stable rank like this only because of the money I'm gonna spend.
Definitely must be something more.

Thats my plan. Adding to more and more directories every day, as well as purchasing permanant links on blogs and the likes.

Sorry Educationlinks, I meant the daily rank. It would be impossible to get any site to jump from 3 million to 20,000 in the toolbar since that is the 3 month average.

In my point of view, u spent your money in hurry. Hurries always create worries. I agree with other on few points.
domain is not suitable
You should care about page rank
But with wise plan u can get pr6 in half money.

Hahaha, no one likes to hear that they might have just wasted a whack-of-dough!

But yes it is good that you hear these things before you spend any more money.

It really is all about conversions, traffic is nice but you gotta make money so you can continue to promote the site.
