I call it "tons" because I rarely know exactly how many. Last count I had just under 1,000,000 backlinks to my website. How did I manage this? I used my knowledge of programming to create a small WordPress plugin, which I added code where a link would add to the footer of your page if you wanted to "give credit." It sounds simple, I know, but it's effective. Especially since the plugin was a minor success. This isn't to advertise the plugin, or my site, so I won't list them. Basically, though, all I did was supply a service--the plugin--which I deemed useful--I had built it originally for my own blog, but used it so much that I felt it should be refined and published on the wordpress repo. In my second installment of the plugin I added code so that every month an alert shows up asking for a paypal donation, which you can simply close. Thing is, if you're not showing my link, this shows up once a week. It's a simple system. That, coupled with a few blog posts that hit a small niche market, I have managed to get over the last few months an average of 300 unique visitors per day. Without posting. It's not a lot, I know, but I'm also not pushing my own site currently. Has anyone done similar? Do you have any stories about how you got your back links? I like to hear how other people have accomplished things because, even if I can't follow those steps exactly, it invariably gives me ideas for new avenues.
The plugins main focus is automating wordpress features. The backlink is just a credit to me for creating it. I've found that the majority of the people who download the plugins will credit you, and link back to your site. Which, it got picked up by a few, and since it's posted at the footer of every single page of their sites, the total links back hit nearly a million. Just a bit of dumb luck and good fortune, but it worked for me. Basically the point I was trying to make is that if you have a talent outside of marketing, you can utilize those talents and get backlinks in a unique sort of method.
Will work for a bit of a traffic for a short amount of time but its going to completely destroy any semblance of a ranking and the ability to do so. Much like sponsored template links basically. That is a clearly defined ranking trigger in the algo now. Just food for thought. Not trying to be a negative nancy or anything but I figured I would warn you before you eliminate any chance of an actual merit based listing. Nigel
I agree with Nigel, flawed idea. Google spots 'footer' type links way too easily and just ignores them. I'm not sure why you'd want 1,000,000 backlinks from 1,000,000 different niches either. Great if it makes you some money, but i'm not sure it's a decent link building idea... good luck with it though and keep us updated.
Originally the link was simply for recognition that I was the developer of that plugin. I never intended it for SEO purposes. In recent incarnations, I've added a rotating keyword system where it randomly selects a WAY to post it. At the end of the day, the website it's linking is my personal blog which I don't really care if it ranks or not, and if I can use the proposed link back as an incentive to get people to donate some cash VIA paypal, that's always better than a link, anyway. I have a completely seperate website and business model for my SEO work. I can say that I've never had any issues with ranking doing this. People find me every day, the majority of my visitors come organic through Google searches. I could understand a footer link being spammy, but these are tasteful copyright notices for a specific plugin, and I'd be willing to bet there are systems in place to filter these. Admittedly, I've only been focusing on SEO for a short time now, but at the end of the day I figure as long as I'm not spamming links and doing some dirty activities, any link back I get will, at the worst, be a neutral link. At best it's a benefit.
http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4445558.htm there is someone with practical experience on the matter. http://www.seroundtable.com/wordpress-theme-links-15068.html bit of analysis there. again, just food for thought. You did not really come across as spammy but the end result may largely be the same. I would have let you know lol.. May want to no follow those if you have not already done so especially given its not about link juice in the first place. Nigel
