How I lost 90$ - Or Why I HAte Google and Alexa

I was putting up for sale my bidding directory when unexpectedly Google Penalized me and removed the PR2- to PR0 . Had to change the bids , to not look stupid, and lost at least 40$ from PR. But that wasn't enough, after selling - Alexa finally updated (after sleeping 48 days ) from 11488k to 150k . lol . This way I've been had by Alexa with another 50$ (as the selling price could have raised ). So next time I'll sell something ... better wait for the update .. if I'll be sure traffic raised.

    STATISTICS:

    Sold - 75$
    Potential Price (TODDAY) - 150$
    Owned By Alexa & Google - with 75$ :p

And that's why I hate Google and Alexa !!!

Did you know that the lower the rank you have in Alexa the better? So your Alexa rank actually improved almost 100 times.

think you didn't get the point ... did you ? I had the alexa update after I sold it . If the update happened before selling , I could have added up to 50$ to the price.... :p

To be honest with you. I have bought websites for clients and bought a few myself. Alexa is not something we look at in the sales. It can show you generally how much traffic they get but is one of the last things we would ever check since it does not really track anything with any type of real accuracy. All of my companies websites use Quantcast and Neilsen to track, we also look at the financials of the companies when buying as that is the most important part when it comes down to it.

Yes, but sometimes , like this .. it could have added to the price . Don't you think? and that's not the only thing that got the bid down, google also penalized me the day the sell thread appeared, isn't that a coincidence :p

Lets hope no one "evil" from Google is reading this or else they will give you a penalty as well since your site is in your sig!

Toolbar PR is a snapshot many weeks before. You may well have dropped links hence the TB dropping, or if you are pimping links.

I rather like Alexa even though as everyone says no one has an Alexa Toolbar (unless they have a root virus!).
Most sites that we deal with are too small to be measured by some of the Quantcast etc and too insignificant. Alexa's a bit like being in the gents, those who dont have one to be proud of are normally embaressed, except in this case the smaller the better.

Alexa only plays tiny role in your value.

I would say, PR is the most valid.

yes .. but we all now how google sets the fairness... I a friend which had a website that made 50$ per day from adsense .. so google decided to ban that website from ads and told him that if he doesn't want to be banned , remove all ads. :p

Anyone else has google confessions to make ?

You are lucky for being able to sell a penalized site.

Not really.. if you think, then you realize all you buy a website for is profit on it. Just show the traffic stats and the earnings from adsense , affs etc and it overcomes any PR.
You can have PR6 but the earnings to be 0.6 . :p

Adsense is slowly becoming irrelevant unless they can bring their click prices up. If you don't run a very high niche website you are now getting an average of 1-10 cents and that is without even being smartpriced.

yes...and the seem like they prefer not to increase prices... unless the have more clients at adwords... guess traffic can't solve adsense profits...people should be interested to click ... but it seems ads are same and not really seen on pages with good content..don't even see the ad next to a good content.

PR and alexa are same importance. We all want to have pr 10 or alexa in 10 000, our goal when starting is pr 4 and alexa under 200 000.

I would sure not pay allot for just PR website, alexa is also important to me. Some people hate it(because they websites sux at alexa) but alexa is acctually showing where your website stands in question of traffic ranking. and i bet all of you will want lower alexda than those over 5 000 000.

Not really dadaas I have had websites I owned in the Alexa top 100k and haven't had a website above 1mil for awhile now but for instance I owned a tech/internet website and it was alexa 65k but a movie entertainment website I owned got about twice the amount of traffic but was yet alexa 245k. It all depends on the niche since more webmasters than anyone has the alexa toolbar installed. And someone who mentioned Quancast all you have to do is get your website registered with them by putting the tags on your website. This helps a lot of us prove our stats that sell some direct advertising. I actually found though that Quantcast gave me even higher viewer numbers than Google Analytics which I thought was a good thing since I think analytics is very conservative in numbers.

can anyone tell why people say "Alexa doesn't really matter" or "I don't take in consideration alexa"... and now everyone writes "it works for me".

"Alexa only plays tiny role in your value." "To be honest with you. I have bought websites for clients and bought a few myself. Alexa is not something we look at in the sales."
