How I got 1,000 Unique Visitors From Facebook With Less Than 5 Minutes of Promotion

    Introduction:

I have already written an article on how to use Facebook for marketing purposes and in turn gain large amounts of traffic over a month or two. Now I am going to show you how you can garner a quick 500-1000 unique visitors with a mere 5 minutes of work. The only thing you need is a Facebook profile!

Step #1 - Pick Your Topic

The first thing you need to do is decide what you are going to be advertising today. Purely for the sake of an example I will be using Urban Clothing. Again for example, lets say my niche will be a blog dedicated to urban clothing.

    Second Step: Go to Groups

Once you are done picking your niche, head over to Facebook Groups. You can find Groups by looking over to the left sidebar of your Facebook homepage under "Applications." This is located towards the top portion of the page.

    Third Step: Search For Groups

Once in the groups page of Facebook, you should now search for a group dedicated to or revolving around your niche. The group search is located in the top right of the page near/below the logout button. For the example I am going to search a specific type of urban clothing, Bathing Ape.

Fourth Step: Finding the best group for you

Here is one of the most important steps to the entire process! Be sure to only sign up for groups with under 1,000 current members. If you fail to follow this instruction, the whole process is ruined. During my search I found a great group dedicated to Bathing Ape clothing, but it had 2,400 members. Another important aspect of finding the group for you is group activity. If a group has a lot of members, but nothing is going on, then it isn't the right group for you. After spending a good 30 seconds finding the right group for my niche, Bathing Ape clothing, I found a group called "A Bathing Ape*" that had 580 members and some recent activity (including some new member joining)

Fifth Step: Join the group and participate

You should join the group of your liking and immediately participate within the group. Check out the photos section and add a photo or two that is relevant to the group. Next head over to the discussion board and answer some questions and possibly start a interesting topic or two. After that go on to the group wall and jump right into the conversation; if nothing is being discussed, throw something out there for fun.

    Sixth Step: Find the creator/admin

Here is where you start to get your reward for the little time spent working at this. Locate the creator of the group on the right hand side of the group profile page. Typically you can find him/her at the bottom of all the right-hand sidebar information.

Seventh Step: Send the creator a message

This is the most important step to actually getting results! You will send the admin a message about your website/product. Within this message you can only type so much. There are a lot of ways you can write this message and have it go wrong; there are also a lot of ways you can write this message and have it go right - I will be covering that in my next article!

The easiest way to do this important step is to give a simple subject heading and within the body tell the admin you found them through their group, that you love their group, and that you think everyone in his/her group should see this interesting story/website/or product (that being a link for you of course!) Ask the admin to send a message directly to all of his/her members, this provides you with the most results. If what you are presenting the admin is interesting, more often than not they will send the message to their group with a positive spin towards your link. Just like anything else, if you are product isn't noteworthy, helpful, or amazing, you will not see results.

    My Personal Results

I have used this method of Facebook advertising for months now, but only once or twice a month in fear of being labeled a spammer by Facebook. One time I sent my website/product 1,400 uniques over a two day period. One time I received absolutely no results. It truly depends on your product, some luck, and the group you choose. The one thing I did notice was that traffic from one message could occur for days or even weeks after the message was sent. It all depends on when the group members read or view the admin's message. When I received the 1,400 uniques, I would still get 10 or 15 a day a week or two later.

This is somehow Spam you know? However it's moderated spam .. that the creator of the groups sends forward.

How about a better idea. Why not become a creator yourself so that you can have a big group and then send them links?

Well I'm not sure the "you should send it to everyone" part is going to work.
    Otherwise nice article :)

Funny that you brought that part up. I have actually found that adding that one line is more effective than leaving it out. I guess it comes out of the "Leading the person to the well" theory. If you don't give them idea to send it to their members, then they might not do it!

    Alex,

That is a great idea that I have used in the past and will cover on my blog in the future. The only thing is, that takes time and effort, the method in this post doesn't! :D

Thanks to all for the friendly responses, check out the link at the top of the article for screen shots of me doing the process.

    Good thinking.

The only problem is that people will have a hard time judging their own sites for this criteria: "Just like anything else, if you are product isn't noteworthy, helpful, or amazing, you will not see results." ;)

What was a result from all those visitors? Did you get the outcome you wanted from them? Like making sales, or getting leads?

Didn't facebook make it so that creators of large groups can't send out messages to all the members of a group any more?

I doubt that traffic from facebook will generate any sales or leads. It is traffic that can generate a few clicks but that's about it.

The result was extremely positive! My goal when I got my best results was to convert visitors into users of my website. I managed to get a ton of the unique visitors to convert into members on my social network. It was easy considering that all of the users who came to my website were deeply involved in my niche.

    jw,

Yes Facebook put some limitations on creators sending message to their group members. Facebook disables the feature for the creator once the group reaches 1,000 members. I touched upon that point within the article -

Great article but marketers are using Facebook and Myspace for product promotion and therefore, in turn are getting a bad name.

But its a great article. Did that traffic actually convert? I.e. was it targeted traffic?
