Hi, I would like to use newsgroups to advertise my website the reason i would like to is because i see real potential of using them. I recently did a test and got an increase inf traffic the problem is i was accused of spamming. I never want to spam and i should have really asked this question before submitting anything. So my question what are newsgroups and what do i submit to them i was thinking articles is this correct. Appreciate some help big or small thanks.
It varies widely with the group. You should read the faq for each one you wish to post in. I have been posting in them since 1995. Almost all allow an sig link up to three lines. This is about all the advertising bang you are going to get. And if you are not contributing to the group most people will mark you "ignore posts by". Almost all hate a post like, "See this page for information" or link drops. Most hate and ban HTML posts. Discussions groups ban picture files though you may provide a link to one in your post. Usenet was around from the very early web as serious communication tool and sometimes for chat. The regulars hate anything that attempts to lower the standards to the commercialization of the www. So in summary, it is a fine, tight line that you have to walk.
