    Every hosting service provide you a tool where you can track visitors, links, keywords, etc..one of the popular tool is AWSTATS..its really good I am using this for more than 10 sites..its works like a charm.

    If you want to have an idea of traffic of other's website then you can use Alexa which gives an estimate traffic of other users. You can use alexa toolbar to increase your own alexa ranking.
