I had started a small hosting company with friend last year end. Around in october.
But it was just a fail. The site is up and still running but we are hosting our own sites. Probably more than 20
We had plesk in a vps to do the job of hosting.

But i would say it's not bad. I actually get 1-2 clients sometime signing up on my site. Not sure where they get redirected from but they do sign up. And maybe, after sometime, i will put all my efforts and time to make it grow

 

Indeed that is why it isn't growing, it requires constant effort. You cant sit and expect the world to come to you, go out there and get it!

 

Review is very important in hosting business. So provide server with the best service.

I think you are pretty much bang on with your three key areas. I have been watching the hosting industry over the past couple of years and am noticing a change in the Market. Customers used to go for those companies that were offering hosting services for $1 or less and expected 99.9% uptime and great customer support. However we all new this wouldn't work and the company that offered these services would close down. Nowadays I am seeing a lot more posts with people looking for hosting companies that have been around for a while, and are focusing on the services they offer and not the price the are offering these services. This is great for the hosting industry and can only help this continues

 

Before you choose a company, search for reviews on both here and WHT. Don't go for the company with the best offer, but the one with the best reputation. You will want cPanel and whmcs. If you can get extras like Softaculous and a Site builder thrown in as well, this is only a positive and means you have extra to offer your customers.

You want him to be like HostGator? Seriously?

Is it really? I guess it really depends on what you are selling, and if you are envolved with cranky clients every day, if not, then you got it made.
In hosting, its simple, if you are going to be a slacker like DreamHost, Hostgator, then your clients will end up walking, and if he expects to even
grow even more, then his attitude should be his clients time is his time, because without those clients paying every month, then where is he?
how will he spend his important time then? Hosting business is probably something I would not recommend, so kudos to jixxer for making it happen.
