Well, it pains me to have to say this but Hostgator is no longer my top choice for referring clients. Back in 2008 I was the owner of BlogHosting.com and a few other major referrer websites that generated a good amount of sales for several companies, along hostgator. Fast forward to today, I no longer own those major sites and I really haven't actively referred many clients to hostgator. I think it's important to keep enormously popular companies in check for several reasons, but mostly because their fast growth is fueled by affiliate workers who are willing to invest time and money into their company for a cut of their profits. I had a few affiliate commissions from earlier this year that I was waiting on, but somehow the payments never arrived. Here is how they get away with stealing your commissions... 1. A client signed up for a certain plan (probably a baby package) and he decided to upgrade his plan, which should be a bonus for us! Unfortunately Hostgator saw that as a "cancellation" and the following account was seen as a "duplicate" of the first. Yeah, I thought that was sneaky. But it doesn't end there! 2. Did you know they have a 180 day period where you have to make another sale (assuming you have the $50 pay per client) before they decide it's okay to remove the sale all together? Yep, they think it's okay to delete your earned $50 commission after 180 days of no new referrals. So there you are, two ways Hostgator.com steals your affiliate commissions. Promote at your own risk!
Yeah, after Hostgator owned by EIG, they started like that. I have lost one affiliate commission like that. Then I stopped promoting them.
Ummm... I think we ALL had a horrific time with hostgator. I remember when I first started with them back in 09 the website had soo many downtime, it was crazy! Now for you guy who really want to sell domains and packages why not just go to the biggest like godaddy? Just Google " Godaddy Reseller " read about the packages to have your own domain look like a professional webhosting site but they buy the domains from godaddy and you can charge whatever you want!!
Hostgator was mine favorite network before. Slowly I got to know how they steal commissions. Their terms and conditions are too bad for us to promote them any longer. However I have developed a method which makes me passive income from them but they shave a lot. When I get 20 sales I only get paid for around 5-7. That is too low. My Client's site are up but hostgator says "invalid" or "overdue" . Do you know any other network which is better?
It's pretty sad! They simply don't care either, I'm surprised they continue to do well. As far as other programs to promote, I wouldn't know. It's been a while since I've switched providers and the market has changed a lot in just a few months!
